Sending Email - Templates, including markers
Email templates are a tool that you will have available on all pages where you can send email in BigSIS. It is very important to learn that each table you can send email from will have its own templates. For example, the email templates your create for the people table will not be available on other tables. Each table will have its own unique email templates and you will want to create email templates for each table you plan to send email from.
This concept extends to the email markers that you have available. Each table has its own set of markers. Although you will find that some of the same markers will be available on more than one table not all of the markers can be used on all tables. Therefore when creating email templates, or sending just one email, you will want to use only the email markers available for that table.
All of this leads us to creating an email template. To create an email template we will always have you go to the table you plan to create the template for. In this example we will create an email template for the people table therefore you will go to the people table to create this template.
From the People table...
- Click Communicate > Send Email.
- Click the Choose an Email Template drop-down menu. Click on the green combo box to add a new template.
- This will take you to the page titled Add New Html Template for Sending Emails.
- Add a Title.
- Add a custom form (optional).
- Once you have made these selections click on Save and Continue.
- You are now ready to start formulating your email template.
- You will be able to select from a list of the email markers available.
PRO TIP! Remember this list will depend on the table that you are emailing from. This means that the marker list will be different from table to table and will depend on the context of information on that table. For example, you won't see donation markers on the people table. - If you scroll down you will see the template text area, this is where you can add the body of your email template. You will have many edit functions for your email template.

Adding email markers to your email template
To add email markers you have two options. Each will be discussed below.
Copy and Paste:
- Navigate to the Email Markers & Link Builder. You will see a list of your email markers, click copy button to copy the marker.
NOTE: Copy button may not function properly on Safari browsers. If this is the case, copy the marker title including brackets, and this is what you will want to paste into your email body. - Now, paste this marker into the body of the email where you want this information to appear. For example, the marker for “First Name” will appear as {{Firstname}}. If you want the email to read Dear John you will copy the marker and then place it in the body of the email where you want Dear John to appear. It will look like Dear {{Firstname}} and each person that receives this email will have their first name filled in in place of the marker.
PRO TIP! Ctrl+C is a short cut for copying and Ctrl+V is a short cut for pasting! Mac users you should use Command+C or Command+V.
Manually Enter the Email Marker:
- The other option is to simply type the marker exactly as it appears into the body of the email. For example, you will manually type into the body of the email {{Firstname}} instead of copying the marker.
