Here are the quick steps for adding new Programs and editing existing Programs in BigSIS!
PRO TIP! Anytime you add a new program to your system you need to then add that program to the current and future academic year(s). Follow these steps for Adding a Program to an Academic Year
If you use the BigSIS Admissions/Leads module you will also need to add this program to your Lead Enrollment Configuration for the current and future configurations. Follow these steps for Customizing a Lead Enrollment Configuration.

- Go to Students > Other > Programs.
- To edit Programs, select and edit the one you would like to edit. You may then edit any fields for the program. For more information on what these fields are, go to #3 below.
- Click New to add a new program.
(Right-click and "Open image in new tab" to enlarge) - Now, fill in the necessary fields for your new program. NOTE: Title and abbreviation will be the only two required fields. The other fields are optional but you may review the list below the screenshot for more information about each field.

- Title (Required) - seen internally and in the portal as the title of the program
- Description - add a description of this program if desired
- Abbreviation (Required) - this will be used in certain filtering capacities and should be telling of what programs it is. For example, Grade 1 could be "1st" or Kindergarten could be "K."
- Default Degree Type - choose the degree type this program should use. NOTE: you may add new degree type's by clicking on the blue combo box.
- Default Credit Type - choose the credit type this program should use. NOTE: you may add new credit type's by clicking on the blue combo box.
- Parent Program - this is an optional field and should be used for programs like Kindergarten where you may have more than one classroom. For example, Marigold Kindergarten and Daisy Kindergarten both have a parent program of Kindergarten. This also influences the BigSIS lead inquiry form, and only parent programs or programs without a parent program will appear on the inquiry form.
- Order (Required) - this will automatically be added for you but you may change it if you would like to alter the order of your programs.
- Upgrade Program - this is an optional field but you will want to add a program! This will be the program that a student should get upgraded to when they get re-enrolled from the program you are adding.
- Grade Level - you may add an optional grade level.
- Years Til Graduation - you may add the number of years that is will take for a student in this program to graduate
- Don't Include In New Families - BigSIS has a "New Families As Of" filter that allows you to look for new families where none of the students in the family had a previous enrollment record. You may check this box if you want an enrollment into this program to be ignored for new families.
- Don't Show In Portal - you may check this option if you do not want this program seen by any portal users including in school directories.
- Click Save or Save and Back when you are finished!
- IMPORTANT! But wait, you have at least one additional step, possibly two!
