Type of Donation | Explanation | Example
Gift |
|
A one-time donation with no recurring payments. It's paid one time and that's it. |
You receive a one-time donation from a donor for $50.
Pledge |
|
A pledge is money promised to be paid by a future date. This could mean the payment is coming in one lump sum or it will be paid out in installments until the promised amount has been received. |
In January, a donor pledges to pay $1200 by December. They’ve opted to donate $100/month for 12 months until you’ve received the promised amount.
Recurring Gift | Recurring Gifts are like pledges except there’s no limit to how much the donor is going to give. They’ll keep donating in regular installments until they decide to stop. | An employee at your school gives $10 per paycheck twice a month. You will receive this money indefinitely until the employee decides to stop giving. |
