The following two tools can be used to help auto-generate student ID numbers for existing students and new students. First we will look at adding student ID numbers for existing students and then we will look at the setting to create student ID numbers for your new students.
Auto-Generate Missing Student Identifications
- Before you create your student ID numbers you will want to go to Client Settings if you want to affect the start number of your ID numbers. BigSIS will create sequential ID numbers based on integers and will start with the ID number in your client settings. For example, if you want your ID numbers to start at 500000, you will want to adjust that in your client settings.
- Go to System > Settings > Client Settings.
PRO TIP! You can use the dashboard shortcut to get to client settings faster! - Go to Persons and Roles and you can change the number seen in the Student Identification Counter field.

- Go to System > Settings > Client Settings.
- After you have set your starting ID number, go to Students > Other > Student & Admissions Utilities.

PRO TIP! This tool will automatically kick into gear and start creating student ID numbers upon clicking the button so be prepared! - You have now generated student ID numbers for all of your existing students.
Auto Generate Student Identification for New Students
- Go to System > Settings > Client Settings.
PRO TIP! You can use the dashboard shortcut to get to client settings faster! - Go to Persons and Roles.
- Click Auto Generate Student Identification for New Students. Click Save and Back and you will now start generating new student ID numbers based on your student ID counter. Keep in mind that your student ID counter may be showing the next student ID number that will be created based on the already created student ID numbers you may be using.
