If you made it to this article you are in search of our Development 1, Development 2, and Development 3 trainings. Below you will find the recordings, with passwords (should they need it), and also an outline of what will be covered in each training.
A reminder as you are watching the videos: make sure to write down your questions, thoughts, and comments for when you have your one-on-one follow up with one of our trainers. That will be your time to get any questions that you might have answered.

ProTip! The cleaner and more up to date your data is in the system the better your Development module will run. It is essential to maintain your data clean and up to date! This is true from making sure attrition statuses are set to setting left dates for faculty and staff.

Development 2
Recording: Please use this Password: #devtrain2 to have access to watch the recording
During this training, you will be going through the following:
- Campaigns, Funds, Appeals - what are they, how to set them up, and most importantly how do they work in BigSIS.
- Campaign - Campaigns are your overall objectives for raising money. For example, a school that's planning to build a new library could have a New Library Campaign. You can think of a campaign as an umbrella that can have any number of funds and appeals under it. The school could have both a Building Fund and a Book Fund under the New Library Campaign. The overall objective is to raise money for the new library.
ProTip: You will need to create a new campaign every year - Funds - Funds designate the specific financial purpose of a gift. They identify the financial accounts in which gifts and pledges should be recorded and are key to managing your gifts. If your organization has many specifically designated purposes for gifts, you may have many different funds and only a few campaigns.
- Appeals - Appeals track the sources your organization uses to generate gifts and the expenses associated with these sources. You can set up appeals such as direct mailings, phonathons, dinners, and auctions and track the number of constituents you solicit for each appeal.
- Here is the Getting Started With Donations article that will also help along with the training

- Donation Form Template - When setting up Donation Forms for your parents and community to donate from, use our templates that will help you tie the correct campaign, appeal, and fund.
ProTip! The campaign that you select for the form will dictate the Campaign Progress Bar - Thank Yous - These are the emails or letters you will send to your donors (be they for each donation, completing a pledge, or at the end of the year). The tool we have will streamline the process for you.
- Filters - Use the filters we have to help you filter for the incomplete Thank Yous, the completed ones, or all
- Pledges - You will be able to see those who have completed their pledges and send them Thank Yous
- Alerts - set up alerts for a variety of situations: New Donations, Donation with Matching Donor Profile Submitted, Reoccuring Gift Change made By User In Portal, etc.
- Client Settings > Donations - This is where you will go to update your donation settings.
- Donation Email End User Account - This is the email account that will send out your development emails
- Turn on or off sections of the public donations form
- Customize the colors of the public donations form
Development 3
Recording: There is no password to access the recording
During this training, you will be going through the following:
- Clean Data! - This is fundamental. We cannot stress this enough. Without changing attrition statuses, updated dates teachers, board members, and employees left the system will not know what role the students, parents, grandparents, faculty, and employees currently have.
- Donor Roles - These are the roles that your donors can have within your school. Such as Alumni, Parents of Current Students, Grandparents of Current Students, Board Members, etc. These roles are based on a variety of factors, specifically, if students have graduated parents will be Parents of Alumni and grandparents will be Grandparents of Alumni. Same for employees vs. former employees and board members vs former board members.
- Donation Reports - There are a variety of donation reports at your fingertips that will make your life easier!
ProTip! Make sure to spend some time in this area to familiarize your self with the multitude of reports we have- For example:
- LYBUNT from Donor Reports
- Consecutive Years Giving
- Giving Summaries by Role
- Tax Receipt Letters
- For example:
- In Person Table vs. Donor Profile table vs. Contacts Table - Sending Fundraizing Emails and Mailings can be done from three different tables. Depending on different situations you will use one table vs another.
- Filtering in Donor Profile Table - There are a multitude of filters within the Donor Profile Table that will allow you to filter and isolate
- For Example
- By Multiple Roles
- Change in Giving
- Major and Principle Donors
- Family Participation By Program
- LYBUNT from Donor Profile Table
- For Example
- Filtering in Person Table - When looking to fundraise from the Person table, use the filters provided (or even have custom filters created) to help you isolate a set group of people who you want to contract.
ProTip! Note that you will be able to send emails and do Mail Merge- For example:
- By Multiple Roles
- Contact Families Who Have Not Participated
- Guardians of current students who have not donated yet
- By household (1 per)
- For example:
- Filtering in Contacts Table - You will also have filters at your disposal from the Contacts table that will let you filter in a variety of ways.
- For Example:
- Relationship Type
- Is an Emergency and or Pick-up Contact
- Has a Mailing Address
- For Example:
- Fundraising - a key concept for all schools using the Development Module. Use the tables and reports mentioned above to help you filter for key groups of people within your donor community to send them fundraising emails and letters.
